Ipshita Pal is a Research Fellow at the Families and Work Institute. She is an empirical social scientist who studies how policies, contexts and people together shape our work and family-related choices, experiences and outcomes.
Her prior work addresses the motherhood wage gap, parental leave policies, organizational practices, workplace inclusion, employee health and well-being. She is interested in bridging research-practice gaps and in translating research into actions that support women’s advancement. As a Fellow of FWI, she will use data from the National Study of the Changing Workforce surveys to analyze factors shaping women’s leadership aspirations.
She will also support researchers interested in the 2016 public use data. Pal holds a BA in Economics and an MA in Social Work from the University of Delhi, an MSc in Social Policy from the University of Oxford, and a PhD in Social Work and Policy Analysis from Columbia University. She has previously worked as Post-Doctoral Research Scientist at the Columbia Population Research Center and as Assistant Professor of Social Sciences at St John’s University. She was a 2020-2022 Early Career Fellow of the Work and Family Researchers’ Network.
